Established 1981

We are Local 820 of the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and CanadaWe are a provincial arts organization representing, supporting and advocating for musicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. We work alongside other arts organizations who speak for artists in our sector.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Musicians' Association was founded in 1981 by local musicians who felt we needed a provincial organization to speak for the needs of local musicians. Since 2005 we have operated an office in downtown St. John's at 26 Prince of Wales Street where our officers and staff are available weekly to meet with, advise and support musicians. Please visit us to find out more about our services.

Our association is part of a national federation, the Canadian Federation of Musicians, which is part of the AFM (the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada.)

Our member services include contracts to protect you when you perform, tour and record, the Musicians' Pension Fund of Canada, assistance with work permits for US touring, a full range of insurance services (instrument insurance, liability insurance, health insurance, travel insurance), negotiation of the national agreement with the CBC, and the Music Performance Fund which co-funds free public and educational concerts in the US and Canada. Our office is also your local contact for filing Neighbouring Rights in the recordings on which you perform.

Equally important are our information services, which are available to both members and non-members. We can help you make contacts, organize touring and find out more about your rights as a musician.

We are here to support you. Let us know how we can help.
